Owner-Operator Opportunities: Local Retail Freight Out of Jamesburg, NJ

The work

Space Shipping has delivered for national apparel brands since 1992: scheduled store and mall deliveries, LTL, pool distribution and dedicated routes across the tri-state. The freight is consistent because retail replenishment runs every week of the year, with peaks around floor sets and the holidays.

• Local. Everything we dispatch stays inside roughly 100 miles of our Jamesburg terminal: New Jersey, the five boroughs, Long Island, Westchester, Fairfield County and Philadelphia. Runs are day trips, not weeks on the road.
• Scheduled. Store and mall deliveries run on appointment windows that dispatch books before you roll. You know the stops, the docks and the windows the day before.
• Dispatched from one desk. You deal with the same dispatchers every day, out of the same 41,000 sq ft terminal off NJ Turnpike Exit 8A, midway between Metro New York and Philadelphia.
• Retail know-how. Mall docks, security check-ins, freight elevators and Manhattan loading zones are our daily routine, and we route the right equipment to each stop.

Box truck, straight truck and tractor owner-operators we are looking for

• Tractors, single or tandem axle, for 28-foot pup, 48-foot, 53-foot and low-height trailer work in the metro area.
• Liftgate straight trucks for store deliveries without a dock.
• 26-foot box trucks with liftgates for city and mall stops.

What you need

• A valid CDL for the equipment you operate: Class A for tractor-trailer work, Class B for straight trucks over 26,001 lbs GVWR.
• A current DOT medical certificate and registration in the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse (CDL holders).
• A clean motor vehicle record and at least 21 years of age for interstate work.
• Your own registered and insured truck, or a firm plan to have one.
• Comfort with retail stops: appointment windows, mall docks and hand-truck deliveries to the stockroom.
